ECOMMERCE STRATEGY 5 – PICK UP LINES MATTER!

Probably the worst selling tactic I’ve ever encountered is when someone gives me an offer I can’t resist and then asks me to sign up first before I can take the goodies home. Well, if it’s a freebie, why should I complain? But if salespeople ask me to buy something then have me fill up some paperwork first, I’ll be damned. Many an ecommerce web site makes this mistake and loses votes of confidence it would have earned.

Many of you will think this isn’t a big deal. But many of you are probably aware also that shopping cart abandonment causes lost potential conversions than any other issue with selling online. People abandon shopping carts for various reasons. The worst of them probably is that they don’t like to fill up so many forms or go through so many web pages in the ecommerce web site before reaching the checkout. Bad practice!

Pick up lines do matter. If you can’t make a smash in the real life dating scene, at least do it in your ecommerce web site. Do your customers a favor and don’t show them a log in page when they should be browsing through your pages at the moment. You don’t want to date a guy that offers you a martini but asks you to do somersault first.
