WAL-MART BREAKS DOWN THE BARRIER

Wal-Mart bags the third slot for the biggest selling ecommerce web site retailers listed in Microsoft’s top 50 list. Should there be any wonder, knowing that like its counterparts Amazon.com and eBay.com, Wal-Mart is a pioneer in unparalleled retailing success even before the dot com trend hit shoppers all over the world? Now Wal-Mart is doing it again. Last spring it has introduced the in-store pick up scheme where people can buy products online and get them personally from their nearest Wal-Mart store.

Apparently, Wal-Mart benefited a lot from this scheme. Their ecommerce web site boasts of a huge selection of products that shoppers can’t immediately find in their local stores. Once they find it online, they are quickly informed when they can pick the goods and where.

Unfortunately there are also drawbacks to Wal-Mart’s scheme. Shipping takes time and buyers may not be able to wait. However, because shipping is free and buyers can inspect the items themselves, purchasing from the ecommerce web site itself is more of a help than a hassle. Wal-Mart has earned a great percentage of its sales from this scheme already, according to ecommerce reports.
